What are fingerprints?Print

Fingerprints are an impression of the pattern of ridges on the palmar surface of the end joint of each finger and thumb. This is a characteristic different for every person. Fingerprints are taken from the foreigner using a fingerprint latent or with special electronic equipment.

The capture of fingerprints is compulsory for foreigners legalising their stay in Poland. This obligation does not apply to foreigners:

  • who are under the age of 6
  • who are physically unable to give fingerprints
  • who apply for a temporary residence permit to reunite with families

Note: If a foreigner fails to provide fingerprints in order to issue a residence card, the procedure for granting permission will not be initiated.
