Temporary residence permit issued for the purpose of conducting scientific researchPrint

If the foreigner is a scientist and the purpose of his stay in Poland is to conduct scientific research or development work pursuant to an agreement on admitting the foreigner to a research institution in order to conduct a research project, then the foreigner may apply for a temporary residence permit for the purpose of conducting scientific research. In order to obtain such residence permit, the foreigner should present the following documents:

  1. an agreement concluded with a research institution with its seat in Poland concerning admission to the research institution in order to carry out a research project;
  2. a written statement of the research institution confirming that the institution commits itself to cover the costs of the scientist's stay in Poland and the costs of execution of a decision obliging the foreigner to return (what is a decision obliging a foreigner to return ->?) which may be issued in connection with the illegal stay of the foreigner, provided that the costs of the execution of such decision are covered from public funds. The costs of execution of the decision obliging the foreigner to return may be, for example, costs associated with the deportation of the foreigner.  If the costs of deportation of the foreigner are covered from public funds, then the research institution should reimburse such costs within 6 months of the date of expiry of the agreement on the admission of the foreigner to the institution.
  3. health insurance (documents confirming the possession of health insurance ->);
  4. sufficient financial means to cover living costs in Poland (what is the amount of financial means sufficient to cover living costs ->?); and the costs of the return trip to the country of origin (what is the amount of costs of the return trip to the country of origin ->?)

The agreement on the admission of the foreigner to a research institution in order to carry out a research project is concluded in the form of an employment contract (what is an employment contract ->?) or a civil law agreement (what is a civil law agreement ->?).

Note! Scientists employed at research institutions are exempt from the obligation to have a work permit in Poland.

A temporary residence permit for the purpose of conducting scientific research is granted for the period of realisation of the given research project or for the duration of the conducted research or development work, but not longer than 3 years.
